Britney Spears tattoos are fairly small and discreet when compared to some other celebrity tattoos. However, they do tell us plenty about Britney and her outlook on life!
Britney Spears tattoos – back – little fairy tattoo for women
On her lower back, Britney has the cutest little fairy tattoo I’ve ever seen! The ‘fairy’ is drawn as a little girl about 3/4 years old, which adds to the appeal, as it’s a time when children really do believe in magic!
The fairy is beautifully executed with a traditional black outline and has blonde hair, a daffodil flower for her frock and iridescent wings in pink, green and purple.
This was the first of Britney Spears tattoos, done when she was 18 and shown for the first time for publicity photos shot in Paris, May 5th 2000. It reflects Britney’s youth and uncertainty, as well as her ambition to ‘fly high’ in her music career.
Be wary of foreign language tattoos – Britney Spears’ Chinese character tattoo
Britney Spears’ second tattoo was done at the Los Angeles, Art to the Bone studio in February 2001.
It’s always a good idea to check out any foreign language tattoos you plan to have, to make sure the tat’s going to say what you want it to say. As far as Britney Spears tattoos go, the Chinese characters on her right hip were supposed to say, ‘mysterious, amazing’.
However, it turned out she’d had ‘strange’ tattooed in Chinese on her hip!
Anyway, Britney Spears’ tattoo mistake happened way back in 2001, and since then she’s had the tattoo changed into a flower.
But she’s kept the same Chinese writing – well it is a good way to remind yourself not to jump into things without checking them, first!
Britney Spears tattoos – butterfly and vines
On her right foot, Britney Spears tattoos continue the outdoor theme in 2003, with this dainty black butterfly flying above a vine motif, on the top of her right foot.
Flying creatures usually represent a desire for freedom and it seems likely that Britney’s enormous success was starting to overwhelm her, making her feel, ‘hemmed in’.
Also in 2003, Britney had a daisy tattooed on the second toe of her right foot, another image from nature calling to mind summer meadows and wildflowers.
Gambled on love and . . . lost!
Britney Spears tattoos also include a pair of pink dice, showing the ‘lucky number’ 7, on the inside of her left wrist. These tattoos were done in May 2004 in Europe, to match with her ‘then’ husband, Kevin Federline, who already had the same tattoo in blue.
Britney Spears tattoos – Hebrew Kabbalah
Still believing in magic in May 2004, Britney Spears tattoos gained these Kabbalah Hebrew letters, which are supposed to promote ‘healing’, whilst touring overseas. The letters make up one of the Kabbalah sect’s 72 names for their god, and at this time, Britney was looking for a way to cope with her pressured life and taking advice from Madonna, who belongs to this religious movement.
Britney had it removed in 2008.
Britney Spears tattoos – lipstick kiss on wrist
Here’s another cute idea from Britney Spears tattoos – a hot pink ‘lipstick kiss’ tattoo on the inside of her right wrist, done on the spur of the moment in February 2007.
The ‘kiss’ tattoo and the Cross on the left side of her abdomen, were done at the Body & Soul Tattoo Studio in Sherman Oaks on the same day that she shaved her head.
This was the time when Britney suffered a nervous breakdown, brought on by the impossible demands of her international fame.

Britney Star Tattoo for women
Female love star tattoos, so does Britney! From time to time, Britney has shown her fondness for star tattoos. She had many tiny star tattoos on her neck, which have changed their locations with time.
Britney Spears Armband Tattoo
Armband tattoos are patterns that men generally like. Although she is not too fond of large tattoos, this Miami ink armband tattoo looked cool on her.
Britney Spears tattoos – the star and triangle
On December 19th, 2006, Britney had a black star tattooed on her right hand at the Devil Doll Tattoo Studio in Hollywood, with Jamie Lynn keeping her company. But she had it removed about 4 weeks later, in January 2007!
This teeny, tiny triangle on her right hand, between forefinger and thumb, is in the same spot where she used to have the star and was done in August 2009, two days before she appeared at the Teen Choice Awards.
She hasn’t said what it means, but perhaps it doesn’t mean anything – sometimes a tattoo is just a tattoo!
