According to Ash, she got these done on impulse when she was on tour in Colorado:

“We were playing at this club in Colorado called the Black Sheep. I was bored and there was a tattoo parlor next door, so I walked in and I said ‘I’m in a band . . . if    anyone wants to tattoo me for free, have at it!’ And a guy volunteered.”

Discussing her early life, Ash told an interviewer about her family’s long-standing connection with Walt Disney and Disneyland:

‘My family is a big Disneyland family. My great grandma, my great uncle, they all worked at Disneyland. My great uncle Eddie worked alongside Walt Disney developing the art form. My grandma was a can-can dancer.

My mom worked there for a little bit, I worked there for a little bit . . . I grew up like walking distance down the street. My family and I used to go to Disneyland like 3 times a week . . . So it just reminds me of being really happy at that time in my life. I can’t let it go!’

In August 2010, Ash got another bold, dense black tattoo on the side of her wrist which says ‘Believe’ in Disney font and her best friend has a matching tattoo on her ankle.

The large black crow on the inside of her right arm, (May 2011 – tattoo artist Baba Austin), was up to then the largest of Ash Costello’s tattoos.

It’s an impressive tattoo with the crow’s beak open wide to show it’s ‘cawing’, but it surprised Ash when she saw how much skin it covered!

Around the bird is a flowing banner containing a quotation from Slaughterhouse 5, one of Ash Costello’s favourite books of all time! It’s a famous fantasy novel by Kurt Vonnegut and ironically enough, this is the quote Ash chose:

Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt’

However, in an interview later on, Ash confessed:

‘I know this doesn’t make sense, but I didn’t realize it was so big when he (Baba) free-handed it. Before this one, I would have said that tattoos don’t hurt . . . but this one hurt so bad! . . . and I was like, ‘Oh, wow, I just ended up with half a sleeve and I don’t even know how!’

But by 2013, she wanted something bigger, brighter and ‘darker’ to show how much she loves Hallowe’en!

Hallowe’en is definitely Ash Costello’s favourite holiday and she dresses in Halloween-type outfits every day. In October 2013, artist Shaun Kama inked over Ash’s OM tattoo with a colourful and creepy, orange pumpkin candle-lamp!

Those candle flames are a pair of unearthly yellow eyes boring deep into your mind and the mouth may be smile-shaped, but this creature is not your friend!

The razorblade tattoo on Ash’s wrist represents her struggle with depression and emphasises that you can get over the most severe clinical depression and start enjoying life again!

She wrote:

My Friday the 13th tattoo with the @nydrock boys. To remind me . . . I have survived     the worst times, the fucking worst, but I pushed through it and now I’m enjoying the      best times with my best friends.

This tattoo done on Friday, 13th September 2013, includes the Roman Numeral XIII or 13 in ordinary numbers. It looks shocking, but actually carries a really optimistic message for anyone suffering depression that things do get better, so don’t give up!

This tattoo on the back of her right hand says, ‘Dead’ in Gothic script scrawled across the back of her hand as if Count Dracula has just finished writing it with a goose-quill pen dipped in blood!

This fits with Ash’s sense of humour and she often refers to herself as ‘Living Dead Girl’!

If love breaks your heart, the best remedy is finding love with someone better! Ash Costello’s tattoos may show the pain of lost love, but it also records how she bounced back and found love with boyfriend, Nikki Misery!

This romantic yellow, red and blue broken heart tattoo on her right hand matches the other half of a broken heart on Nikki’s hand – so whenever they hold hands the two halves come together to form one complete heart!

Ash Costellos Tattoo Ideas

With the words, ‘I wished for you’ written around the border of Ash’s heart tattoo, you can almost hear Nikki whispering back, ‘And I wished for you’.

Yes, there’s still a little run of blood trickling out of the broken heart, but it’s great that she’s in love and happy now!
